Sustainability Work
Rubato Sustainability Policy
At Rubato, sustainability is not a separate initiative—it is embedded in our design philosophy and way of working. We create garments with permanence in mind, grounded in the belief that long-term value is the most responsible approach to fashion.
A Permanent Wardrobe
Rubato is built on a permanent collection. Our ambition is not to reinvent each season, but to refine and maintain. We offer core garments year after year—pieces designed to be worn often, kept, and revisited. This continuity allows us to avoid overproduction and discourages short-term consumption.
Natural Materials, No Shortcuts
We work primarily with natural materials—wool, cotton, linen, denim, and cashmere—chosen not only for their tactile quality, but for their ability to age well. We do not distress or artificially age garments. No chemicals, overwashing, or synthetic treatments are used to simulate wear. What you see is the raw integrity of the material—meant to soften, fade, and develop character with use.
Responsible Manufacturing
Our garments are produced in collaboration with highly skilled makers in Italy, Japan, and Scotland. These partnerships are long-standing, built on mutual respect, traceability, and shared values around craftsmanship and responsible production. We do not cut corners to meet price or volume demands—every piece must meet our standard of quality and care.
Logistics and Packaging
All shipments—both import and export—are fully climate compensated. Our packaging is also climate compensated, and we continually work to minimize our use of plastic with the end goal of eliminating it entirely. Whenever possible, we repurpose and recycle our packing materials, and ensure that waste is managed responsibly.
Ongoing Commitment
We believe that thoughtful design can contribute to a more sustainable culture. Our approach is intended to shift focus away from trend-based consumption and toward a slower, more considered way of dressing. We hope to contribute, in part, to greater climate awareness and a more mindful relationship with clothing.
Sustainability is present in our daily decisions—from product development to logistics, communication, and internal operations. We promote environmental awareness across our team and continually seek to educate ourselves on new developments and better practices. As we grow, we remain committed to evolving responsibly.
